New Roles, New Equipment, and New Hope – Safe Space & My Place Updates

This month has been packed with exciting developments across our homelessness services—and we’re thrilled to share some of the highlights with you.

From Safe Space to My Place: Joe and Andrew’s next chapter

We’re celebrating Joe and Andrew as they step into new roles with our My Place project, which supports ex-offenders transitioning from prison. Housing can be a huge hurdle for people with a criminal record. My Place partners with Derby Homes and local landlords to give people a second chance, offering practical help and ongoing support to maintain tenancies, address challenges like addiction or budgeting, and avoid falling back into homelessness.

Joe and Andrew previously served with our Safe Space team and are eager to bring their experience to this vital work. They’ve asked for your prayers as they navigate new responsibilities and build trust with those they’ll be supporting.

Generosity in action: Safe Space support grows

Safe Space has also been blessed with some amazing donations this month. Huge thanks to Toyota Motors UK Charitable Trust for a £2,000 grant, which will be used in our homelessness provisions.

Sharing the load: Igor and Simon take on dual roles

We’re also excited to share that two of our staff members, Igor and Simon, are now splitting their time between Safe Space and The Ark. They bring incredible insight and lived experience to their roles.

As Igor puts it, “The Ark is a beacon of hope, love and forgiveness that I am very excited and grateful to be a part of.” And Simon adds, “I’m honoured to be working in The Ark & Safe Space—especially with people whose stories reflect my own.”

In the news: BBC feature

Last week, Safe Space was featured in a BBC article highlighting the realities of homelessness in Derby and the work being done to meet the need. You can read the full article here

We’re so thankful for every donor, volunteer, staff member, and supporter who helps keep this mission moving forward. Let’s keep showing up for those who need hope the most.
